Carlos Ghosn, president of the Renault Group, announced two next steps in the advance of the electrification of Renault’s range of products, foreseen in the strategic plan ‘Drive the Future’: a new affordable electric urban vehicle, expected to be marketed first in China in 2019, and the hybrid and hybrid rechargeable versions available from 2020 on three of its best-selling vehicles: Clio, Captur and Mégane. Carlos Ghosn also shared his vision of future embedded experiences and revealed the AEX (Augmented Editorial Experience) system, an unprecedented concept also presented at the Paris Motor Show.
New models, new markets
A pioneer and leader in 100% electric mobility, the Renault Group unveiled the Renault K-ZE, a new SUV-style electric vehicle from the SUV that offers a range of 250 km NEDC, the best in its class. It displays striking lines, whose sporty design is both muscular and compact at the same time. In addition to the attractive look, the Renault K-ZE is easy to recharge thanks to the dual recharging system, compatible with domestic plugs and public infrastructures. The equipment package complements the driving experience of the electric model, including rear parking sensors, a rear-view camera and a central screen with navigation and connected services.
Occupying the first position among the countries that most sell electric vehicles, China is also the market where this segment grows the most. Developed to be a global model, the Renault K-ZE will be marketed first in China. Local production will be handled by e-GT New Energy Automotive Co, a joint venture established with Dongfeng Motor Group and Nissan, to develop and produce competitive electric vehicles for the Chinese market. “In addition to being a pioneer, the Renault Group is the leader in the electric vehicle segment in Europe. Our newest model, the Renault K-ZE, is an affordable and SUV-inspired urban compact, bringing together the best of the Renault Group: our leadership in electric vehicles, our expertise in affordable vehicles and our ability to build strong partnerships, “said Carlos Ghosn , Chairman of the Renault Group. Renault also confirmed a complementary step in the electrification of its range of products. By 2020, Hybrid Clio and Hybrid Rechargeable models of the Mégane and Captur models will offer customers the ability to discover electromobility in tested and widely approved models. With e-Tech, an innovative 100% Renault technology, the Group can offer hybridization systems in its B and C segment models.
AEX: Premium content and reinstalled embedded experiences
During the Press Conference, Carlos Ghosn commented on how the advent of the new mobilities profoundly modifies the experience on board a vehicle. In a connected and standalone vehicle, it is not necessary to pay attention on the route. Therefore, users can enjoy a more sophisticated and enriching experience, both personally and professionally, with better use of travel time. In this perspective, the Group began to approach the publishing sector, having signed a first partnership with the Challenges Group, through a shareholding. From this partnership was born the Augmented Editorial Experience (AEX) system, with the purpose of making each trip a unique learning experience that goes beyond driving and the vehicle itself.
“With the advent of connected and autonomous vehicles, there will be an increase in users’ expectations regarding the quality of their travel time. Together with the Challenges Group, we envisioned what could be a personalized and connected mobility experience with the future, “said Carlos Ghosn. “Access to premium editorial content, reinvented and immersive for the driver and passengers, will become a key differentiator.” The AEX concept is present at the Group stand at the Paris Motor Show. Inside a large capsule and through four scenarios designed to 222 ° panoramic panoramas, visitors can discover how their journey time can be different and intensified through new forms of Premium, interactive and personalized, exclusive content by the editors of the Challenges Group. Standing side by side in the Group’s booth, the AEX system and Renault’s new premium concept car – a standalone, electric and connected vehicle robot – allow visitors to easily imagine what their experience in the autonomous car of the future could be.
